#46: Embracing Career Pivots as Part of Life – Iesha Small

In my opinion, career pivots are such a great topic, but they are not discussed enough in the freelance landscape. This is why I was thrilled to have discovered this week’s guest, Iesha Small, who specializes in career pivots and helps her clients overcome the hurdles they experience along the way. She went through the same thing herself (multiple times, may I add) and is well-equipped to change her clients' lives for the better.

Iesha shares her story of making a career pivot and starting her own business. She discusses the challenges she faced and the decisions she made along the way. She also talks about the types of clients she works with and the common characteristics she has observed in people who want to pivot.

She emphasizes the importance of values, taking small steps, and recognizing one's assets and career capital.

This is one of those episodes I might have to relisten multiple times! Hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Takeaways:

  • Making a career pivot requires self-reflection and understanding one's values.
  • Taking small steps and experimenting can help clarify what one wants to do.
  • Recognizing and leveraging one's assets and career capital is crucial in a career pivot.
  • Cast a wider net when reaching out to people and focus on building your personal brand.
  • Understand the difference between an employee mindset and an entrepreneur mindset.
